*After Philadelphia 76ers player Joel Embiid was announced an Eastern Conference All-Star starter before Thursday’s game in Boston, team coaches and teammates flocked to his locker to celebrate the moment.
Inevitably, Rihanna’s name came up during the post game interview, recalling Embiid’s very public attempt in 2013 to shoot his shot, only to be ruthlessly curved by the singer.
“I was trying to get with this famous girl and she said, ‘Come back when you’re an All-Star,'” Embiid famously tweeted in 2014, referring to the singer.
Following Philadelphia’s win Thursday, ESPN asked Embiid whether he might finally have a chance of landing a date with RiRi now that he was a bona fide All-Star.
“She denied me back then; there’s no reason to go back to her,” Embiid said. “So I gotta move on to the next one. There’s a lot of pretty women out there, and I’m beautiful, so I gotta move on to the next one.”
Embiid also brushed off Rihanna during TNT’s post-game interview. Watch that dismissal above and the ESPN dismissal below:
