Vanessa Bryant Mourns Kobe & Gianna On 1-Year Anniversary Of Their Deaths

Vanessa Bryant paid tribute to her late husband Kobe Bryant and daughter Gianna Bryant on the one-year anniversary of their deaths.

This Tuesday (January 26) marks a year since Kobe, 41, and Gianna, 13, lost their lives in a tragic helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, on January 26, 2020, along with seven others. Early this morning, Vanessa took to social media to honor the memory of the NBA legend and her daughter by sharing the poignant letter she received from one of Gianna’s best friends, Aubrey, as well as a heartbreaking tribute of her own.

In her letter, Aubrey reminisces of sweet memories of Gianna as well as her moments of kindness and determination.

“I hope that in the midst of your intense sadness you catch a glimpse of joy in who the daughter you created and raised was,” Aubrey writes. “You did it right Mrs. Bryant, and we are all eternally grateful to you. I am so, so blessed I got to have time with your angel of a daughter, and thank you for giving me that chance. I love you and am thinking of you as we remember and honor her life.”

In sharing the thoughtful letter on Instagram, Kobe's widow wrote, “Thank you so much for beautifully sharing some of your memories of my Gigi with me and allowing me to share them here on my ig. My Gigi is INCREDIBLE and I truly appreciate your thoughtful letter. She loves you so much. I miss my baby girl and Kob-Kob so much, too.♥️”

“I will never understand why/how this tragedy could’ve happened to such beautiful, kind and amazing human beings,” Vanessa expressed of her own grief. “It still doesn’t seem real. Kob, we did it right. Gigi, you still make mommy proud. I love you! #PlayGigisWay #Mambacita #Mamba #DaddysGirl #GirlDad.”

Kobe and Gianna are survived by Vanessa and the couple's daughters: Natalia, 17, Bianka, 4, and 1-year-old Capri.
